I have chosen a few looks that grabbed my attention from the backstage aw 14 catwalk shows.

60s eyes at Gucci. Shades of brown, false lashes top and bottom.Image
Proenza Schouler. Minimal but flawless make up and side parted hair gave models a polished but natural look.Image
Vera Wang; illuminated complexion with pearly highlights and full brows. Natural looking hair, textured and parted low on one side.Image
Prabal Gurung: Hair straight and side-parted then tucked into jewellery and scarves for the catwalk.

Jil Sander; another natural look for the catwalk – but so fresh and young. Hair washed and spritzed with dry shampoo, groomed brows and concealed imperfections, finished off with some lip balm.

edun backstage styleturbineAs much as I love looking at all the catwalk images from various fashion weeks – it is surely the backstage atmosphere that really draw me in. A keen photographer myself, I find the candid, getting-ready images caught sometimes unaware – sometimes with models cheeky grins – that brings the fashion alive. Also, here we can take a closer look at hair & make up and pick up some style tips for the seasons ahead.

I have never seen so many varied ponytails as the 2014 shows so far. They are either sleek, middle parted or casual, a bit rough and ready. But nevertheless, the look seems very ‘natural’ and so is the make up – barely there. Glossy finishes on cheeks and lips, brushed eyebrows.

Charlotte Tilbury (Mac Cosmetics) talks us through the look she created for the Edun catwalk:
The inspiration: “Super fresh…like she’s running around the forest,” Charlotte Tilbury
The Face Kit: “Studio Moisture Cream massaged into skin to hydrate and replenish, using Studio Finish Concealer where needed to perfect, using the 252 Large Shader Brush. Apply Crushed Cranberry Lipstick (available this spring) and apply over the apples of the cheeks and then blend back towards the hairline using the 159 Duo Fibre Brush.”
The Secret: “Clear Brow Set, combed upwards through the brow to groom and set.”
The Finishing Touch: “Lip Conditioner Tube patted onto lips to moisturise and perfect,” says Tilbury.

derek lam ss14 | sophisticated chic

I know all the style reports are focusing on pre-fall collections – but for us mortal human beings who are still crawling our way out of hibernation need inspiration for Spring and Summer. Right? So, you want to know what is around the corner to look forward to, what styles to expect for the coming months – planning your wardrobe. Also, we have added some fashion forward make up styles today, courtesy of Tom Pecheux for Estée Lauder.

At Derek Lam the palette is minimal and mainly monochromatic, but with hues of blue in “picnic-inspired” gingham and sunflower yellows. It is clean and crisp with boxy crop tops layered over textured dresses, a sporty feel that is sophisticated, feminine and chic.
Timeless elegance is something that women around the world would like to wear everyday, so in terms of translating catwalk looks into our wardrobes Derek Lam has made the job quite easy for us ladies – and we love him for that!

Styling/Make Up

The show, which also celebrated a ten year collaboration between Tom Pecheux and Derek Lam, has inspired an entire make-up collection of its own. Launching in January 2014, the limited edition five strong colour palette by Estée Lauder includes eye shadow, mascara and of course – that liner, for that cube.

“Derek and I created a makeup look that builds throughout the show.  It opens with a minimal look that enhances each model’s natural beauty, followed by an added unique edge, and closes with a sexy summer look. The skin is a creamy natural base with a gradually golden eyeshadow and a satin nude lip.  The eyes transform with the addition of a navy cube added to the corners along with navy liner under the eye and mascara on the upper lashes.” – Tom Pecheux, Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director
